Our Teachers

Andy Gill

Andy is a senior yoga teacher with over 30 years of yoga experience. He has been teaching Ashtanga Yoga for over 20 years, with extensive knowledge and experience of teaching and practicing Primary, 2nd and 3rd series in the Ashtanga method.

Andy’s teaching journey began with an apprenticeship with Gingi Lee at The Sangam (now The Shala). He subsequently trained with John Scott and Lucy Crawford, becoming a senior teacher and assistant to John Scott, working and teaching with him on retreats and workshops around the world. Andy has also studied with Simon Borg-Oliver, who has been a significant influence in the development of his approach to teaching Yoga.

Andy is passionate about the healing power of Yoga, something he has personally experienced in his recovery from 2 serious spinal injuries.

In his teaching, Andy combines the precision of biomechanics and functional movement with the fluidity of the Ashtanga Vinyasa method. As an experienced Life Coach, he understands and respects the individual and unique needs of his students. He brings an intelligent, creative, supportive, collaborative, playful and non-dogmatic approach to sharing Yoga.

Andy has a wealth of teaching experience, from London yoga studios to leading retreats and workshops around the world, and is excited to have the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience with the Hastings community.

He is the co-founder of Ashtanga Yoga Hastings, and is also a multi-modal therapist, using Coaching, NLP & Hypnotherapy, as well as Somatic and Breathwork techniques to help his clients. You can find more about this work by clicking here

Gina Stewart

Gina first started practicing Yoga in 2006 in her late teens — since then, her practice has led her to explore many styles of Yoga including Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, Rocket, Restorative and Yoga Nidra lineages.

She has been teaching for 5 years in both London and St Leonards / Hastings, where she co-founded Ashtanga Yoga Hastings with her teacher, Andy Gill. Alongside teaching her own led classes, she assists him in the Mysore self-practice space and is undergoing an apprenticeship and mentoring in Ashtanga Yoga with him as part of her CPD. Gina practices primary series and is working on second series with Andy and Ajay Kumar.

As part of her commitment to her practice, she made her first visit to Mysore to Ajay Kumar’s Shala Sthalam8 in December 2023 for a month, and for 5 weeks in Dec24/Jan25 to continue practicing and studying under his guidance — something she hopes will become an annual trip.

From personal experience and practice, she believes strongly in the benefits of the Ashtanga Vinyasa framework and method. She believes Yoga is a personal practice and aims to create an environment where the practitioner feels supported and encouraged to explore their own potential, and to strengthen the mind-body connection.
